First Day, Second Cycle

"I had a lovely visit with Kathleen," says Jim when he returns from NIH for the start of his second cycle of chemotherapy. After a big bowl of ice cream and a piece of homemade chocolate cake (shades of the Old Jim!) he is now fast asleep for his power nap. Barb got some planting and pruning done, a little shopping, and visits with Willie in the morning and Ellen and Andrew at noontime. All in all a good day. Love, Barbara

  2. Hi you two wonderful people,
Sounds like it's been a good day! The ice cream and cake sounded great and I'm sure tasted great too, Jim! And a power nap is a must afterwards. Barb, we're glad you also had a good day. Seeing those little ones is always a treat. Godd luck with day # 2 tomorrow, Jim. I'm guessing that you'll go tomorrow. Many prayers coming your way. We'll be off shortly to dinner with our Saturday night dinner group ( usually about 4-5 couples and kids included ). They've all been praying for you and are always glad to hear the updates! We will all say a special prayer for you tonight. Here's hoping for another good day tomorrow!
    Love you,
    Jeanne, Frank and Alyssa

  4. Dad and I went in the wrong door yesterday, a parallel hallway to the outpatient/chemo wing. There was a nurse sitting at the nursing station down the hallway, hard to make out a face. We walked toward her and greeted each other with good morning. Then she said, "Mr. Fay?" Dad said, "Candace?" She shouted, "Mr. Fay!" as she jumped up and ran to give him a hug. It was really nice. Then she escorted us the backway to the correct hallway. It was my first visit to NIH and I was impressed with the care. It was great to spend time talking with my dad--some old stories about being an alter boy, a bit about Nana and Grandpa. When they asked him his name and b-day before administering any medication, Dad would respond and then say, "Kathleen's little boy Jimmie."

  5. I forgot to give you this food ordering account. Dad ordering food from NIH. "Hi, yes...(name room number)...Breakfast or lunch? I guess brunch. Okay, could I please have 6 Oatmeal Raisin cookies....what, only three? Why? Okay. Oh thank you, four would be great. Three italian ice. 1 cottage cheese. Decaf coffee and some milk to go in that. Two bananas. Applesauce."

Yes, yes, he wanted to share the cookies with me. Thankfully I only had half of one. Dangerous!

    Appetite back.
