Happy to be Home

So much happier since he's come home. Neutrophils at 3,850; hemoglobin at 9.8. Temp only went to 100 degrees tonight and he feels OK, but very, very tired. Long nap today in his own bed. Enjoyed a visit from Willie, Kath and Dan and some delicious Vietnamese take-out from them. Early to bed and hopefully a good night's sleep. Looking forward to a visit from Andy and Jeanie tomorrow. 1. To our dear friends,
How wonderful- home it is! Barb, you knew what Jim needed and succeeded. Great ANC. Keep up the good work, Jim. And hopefully you'll stay fever free- you know we nurses don't like to call it a fever until it's above 100.4. Good luck. Seriously though, Jim- we are so happy for you both that you were discharged. Now don't let Andy make you laugh too much. Wish we could be there for that visit. Love to all of you and have a great week-end!
    Hugs, kisses and many prayers,
    Jeanne, Frank and Alyssa

  2. Here's a little joke for everyone.

A woman went to the emergency room, where she was seen by a young new Doctor. After about 3 minutes in the examination room, the doctor told her she was pregnant.
She burst out of the room and ran down the corridor screaming. An older doctor stopped her and asked what the problem was; after listening to her story, he calmed her down and sat her in another room.
Then the doctor marched down the hallway to the first doctor's room. "What's the hell's wrong with you?" he demanded. "This woman is 63 years old, she has two grown children and several grandchildren, and you told her she was pregnant?!!"

The new doctor continued to write on his clipboard and without looking up said: "Does she still have the hiccups?'

  4. Had a short but good visit yesterday (saturday) with Jim & Barb.Left NJ at 7. Arrived at Falls Church at 9:45 . Breakfast out with J & B , chatted on back porch in the sun, Jim got tired around 1 and went for a nap. Old buddy (Moose Monahan from California)called and chatted for 10 minutes. Jim asleep by 1:45 when we left. Home on LBI by 6PM. We purposely kept our visit short since the best thing for J & B is rest, in preparation for the 4th go round on Friday. Jim happy to be home but looks visibly worn out. Has to take his time climbing stairs walking etc. Mike, Erin's husband, moved Jim's bed downstairs last week. Great for Jim , tough for the "Blog master" since the computer is squeezed against the wall. I marveled with Jim as to how he does it. His response "you just endure!" Moose made the comment that you often hear about people "battling cancer" . Reading Jim's daily blog he now has a greater appreciation for what that means.

I just noticed my reference to Jim and Barb as J & B ,my 2 favorite people, is also my favorite Scotch.

  5. Dear Barb and Jim,
So happy for you that you're still at home and were able to sit and have a little relaxation with Jeanie and Andy! I can only try to imagine the fatigue that you must feel, Jim. I hope that being in your own bed was very restful. You are in our prayers every day and we send great hugs since we can't be there in person. Barb, glad you are off of the race track to NIH for a few days. Please try to get some rest yourself. Love to both of you!
